Roots

Johnny Rath (via Twitter) is doing my job for me. He's written an eloquent request which stands as a poem in itself.

Weave the trees on the banks of the Thames

and their roots through your tale.

They will have seen many sights and heard many sounds

impassively as royalty & criminals alike

pass down the river,

severed heads.

On Temple Bar,

narrow streets full of refuse,

furtive alleys,

cobbled streets and

open sewers

beneath the shaded boughs.
